North West Mull Community Woodland Company Ltd

NWMCWC is a community company with charitable status set up to manage Langamull and West Ardhu woodlands in the north west of the Isle of Mull. These woodlands were purchased through the National Forest Land Scheme from Forestry Commission Scotland in 2006 with the assistance of the Scottish Land Fund, Highlands and Islands Enterprise, The Robertson Trust, Hugh Fraser Foundation, significant local fundraising and an interest free loan.

Community benefits will include the provision of affordable housing, improved access, business opportunities and the use of the woodlands as an education resource.

Kildavie Settlement

We’re sorry but public access to the Kildavie Settlement is temporarily restricted due to ongoing forestry operations and the presence of nesting white-tailed eagles in the area.

North West Mull Community Woodlands and the Mull Eagle Watch partnership (Strathclyde Police, RSPB, Forestry Commission Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage & the Mull & Iona Community Trust) would really appreciate it if you did not venture any further towards the settlement than this point. The ground is very uneven and potentially dangerous and the legally protected eagles would be disturbed. We want to give them their best possible chance of breeding successfully this season and this site will be part of the Mull Eagle Watch nest protection scheme with the use of CCTV and volunteers.

In the meantime we are exploring options for safe public viewing of the eagles when the time is right. Thank you very much for your patience and understanding but please get in touch if you would like to know more. We hope you enjoy your visit to the beautiful Langamull area.

USE OF THE NEW TIMBER HAUL ROUTE

The new haul route which has been designed for use by heavy vehicles, crosses land which is managed or owned by 5 different people. NWMCWC Ltd only has rights to use the parts of the Haul Route which are not on its own land for the Routes construction and maintenance and for vehicles over 7.5 tonnes engaged in Agriculture and Forestry activities.

As with other land in Scotland access by walkers, cyclists and horse riders cannot be restricted but access by and the use of motor vehicles is.

So that we can continue to enjoy the good relationship we have with our neighbouring landowners the company needs to ensure that only authorised vehicles use the Haul Route.
